Saha is owned and run by husband and wife team, Mohamed and Marmee Aboghanem. Marmee leads the front of house and wine selections while Mohamed's expertise is the food. The dishes are a unique blend of traditional Yemenese Arabic cuisine and barrier pushing California cuisine. Mohamed hails originally from Yemen, the southern tip of the Arabian peninsula. After leaving as a young man he traveled extensively through Europe embracing the traditions and flavors of the countries of his travels. Finally settling in San Francisco, he began working at some of the most upscale restaurants before opening his own cafe, and now his own restaurant. Marmee has experience in the hotel and restaurant business and is cultivating a deep knowledge of wines. She is becoming an expert in recommending good pairings. The dishes at Saha are a reflection of the creative combination of the chef's native Yemenese upbringing and his yearn to explore and embrace the delicacies of the countries he's traveled to and adopted as his home. Only the freshest ingredients are used, and there is a large variety of vegetarian options (and even a few vegan ones). The team at Saha also strives to use the best in environmental practices, using biogredable take-out containers, and non-toxic cleaning products. Most of the food prepared at Saha is organically grown when possible. The quality of the food is of the utmost importance, and the name of the restaurant, Saha, which translates as, "to good health", is taken very seriously. We invite you to relax and go on a culinary exploration with us. Saha!

One of the best meals of my life

This was the best Middle Eastern meal I've ever had (and I've been to the Middle East).

In fact, it may be the best meal I've ever had. Definitely top 5.

The service was great. Our waitress was casual and fun, but really on top of her game, always there when we needed her and able to recommend her favorites. She actually seemed to be having fun at work.

Every dish that came out had our mouths celebrating in various surprising ways. Complex and unusual flavors abounded and there was so much great vegetarian stuff I wanted to go back the next day.

Sadly, the bill came to more than $100 (for two people, including appetizers, drinks and dessert). Worth every penny, but we just couldn't afford to do it again.
