This store is owned by a family who is Middle Eastern. I embrace the diversity of San Jose, but these people make comments about me (the "American") with their friends who are standing around the checkstand. Last night while I bought a bottle of Barefoot Pinot Grigio, the checker and his two friends who were visiting with him, made remarks to each other in their language with the word "American" interspersed, while laughing, and looking at me. This has happened to me almost every time I have been there. I figure since I am spending money on their high-priced products, they should make me feel welcome to come back, not make me feel as if I'm being ridiculed. I'm Irish American and I speak fluent Spanish, so maybe next time I should make a remark about Middle-Eastern people back at them, in Spanish, but I don't wish to sink to their level. I have decided not to give them any more of my money. San Jose, 95121.
