Provided by YP.comI employed by a Georgia-Pacific Corp Packaging Division Corrugated Container Plant for close to 35 years (30 years in So. San Francisco and 5 years at San Leandro). When it comes to the Corrugated Container Industry you will work long hours (8, 10, or 12 hr. day) and you will often work 6 and maybe even 7 days a week. As a result of the way the Corrugated industry “works” Georgia-Pacific is not an easy employer to work for (in that industry anyway). I spent 14 years as an hourly employee (union member) and 21 years as a member of the management team (Supervisor, Superintendent, HR Mgr.; Quality Assurance Mgr. etc.). Because of business and staffing demands attendance is a big issue, and failure to comply with the attendance programs is the # 1 reason that I saw people being terminated during my years of employment. If you’re an hourly employee and if you come to work, and focus on productivity, Safety and product quality you'll do fine. If not you'll likely need to find other employment. Wages for the job classification performed are about the best in the nation, and benefits are competitive with other corrugated box manufacturers. Georgia Pacific offers several employment opportunities, and opportunities for advancement but those opportunities must be earned. The company is committed to growth through manufacturing excellence, Safety, and customer satisfaction. However, employee satisfaction is not something that they have a reputation for. So, if you’re willing to work, and looking for employment that may not make you feel "warm and fuzzy" but will provide you with years of uninterrupted employment with fair compensation G-P is your spot.
