The Public Works Department is administered by the government of the City of San Mateo in California. It is responsible for the maintenance, repair, cleaning and installation city streets, traffic signal intersections and street lights. The department maintains more than 100 miles of storm drains and over 15 miles of open creeks and drainage canals. It also works for the maintenance and repair of sewers, dams, wastewater treatment plants, storm drainage system pump stations, and publicly owned parking lots and garages. The Public Works Department inspects the construction of public facilities and serves the residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. In addition, it clears clogged ditches, as well as repairs roads, potholes, public alleys and bike paths.
