Employment Development Department is a part of the Government of the State of California. Based in San Rafael, Calif., it offers an array of services under the Job Service, Unemployment Insurance, State Disability Insurance, Workforce Investment and Labor Market Information programs. Being one of the largest tax collection agencies, the department handles the audit and collection of payroll taxes and maintains employment records. Some of the services provided by the Employment Development Department include assisting employers with labor needs; helping job seekers obtain employment; administering the federally funded workforce investment programs and assisting disadvantaged recipients in becoming self-sufficient.
