Failed us in a serious time of need

We took a check for $500, drawn on a local account, from a local business, written to a local resident, and these guys refused to cash it for no specific reason. We are both in our early 40s, well dressed, and obviously not trying to pull anything. Without justification, they told us they would not cash the check, even though they had previously (within the week) cashed a personal check for my wife, drawn on an out of town bank written by an out of town party.

Backstory: My wife and I were sick with the flu, trying to cash a paycheck from a local business, while we were both running fevers and needed the money for firewood.

If I were you, stay away from this place. Its in a bad part of Pacific Avenue, they are obviously used to dealing with freaks and rug dealers, and when faced with the clearest of all situations, they refused to do their job. These people are epitomes of the sleezy reputations that check cashing places apparently deserve.

Had we known sooner, we would have responded right away, we are sorry if anyone was not able to benefit from our services because of this inaccurate and misleading review. If we cashed every check presented to us, we would go out of business. As we ARE in the business of cashing checks, we make every effort to cash our customer's checks. Since this person didn't identify themselves, we can't explain why we declined to cash this check - it could be because the check was too old or we had checks from that company returned to us for insufficient funds or the signature on the check didn't match the signature we had on file from previously received checks. We have never declined to cash a check without giving a reason. We very regularly call the issuer of a check to try to verify its validity if there is any question - if someone comes after the issuer's business hours, we may have to ask the customer to return in the morning. We would NEVER "refuse to do our job" "without justification" - why would we! We provide a service that has helped MANY people who would otherwise not be able to get cash for a check. Our customers are NOT "freaks and (d)rug dealers," but ordinary people who benefit from the many services we are able to provide for them.
