This new tiny sushi restaurant on Water Street, around the corner from Pasquale's and next to the Chile Shop is about as good as it gets. We are from Las Cruces and crave superior sushi which is in short supply in our town. We felt like we arrived in heaven by the time we were through munching through the variety of dishes on the restaurant's extensive, reasonably priced menu.



The staff at Sushi Land East is not only accommodating, but creative and knowledgeable.



We ambled in on a very hot day, planning to meet local regular patrons of the place. The folks in charge could not have been nicer. They went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable while waiting for our friends. We were hungry and ordered a Santa Fe roll off the menu which arrived very quickly and was exceptionally tasty, featuring a whole roasted chile throughout. Others who were seated seemed to be getting their orders quickly as well -- enjoying every bite!



When our friends arrived, we surrendered our menus and let them do the ordering. We feasted leisurely for over 90 minutes of gastronomic nirvana, devouring an amazing amount of unusually well-prepared sushi.



The highlights for me were kama (salmon neck) a rare delicacy, perfectly cooked, a "crunchy roll" deep fried with a lacing of crunchy veggies on the outside and fish on the inside, and a caterpillar roll which just melted in my mouth-- while being pleasing to the eye as well.



Considering the size of the place, they turned out an amazing amount of food for an extremely reasonable price.



In the words of the Terminator, "we'll be back!"
