In early 2009, TREC gathered information from more than 100 executive directors and development staff to assess the state of environmental fundraising. This new report - the third in a series - provides important insights into the ways the current recession is affecting wilderness and conservation organizations. The report details the steps groups are taking to cope with the downturn in the economy, it includes a detailed analysis of fundraising strategies currently being deployed, and it offers advice and guidance on remaining financially resilient during these challenging times. TREC is dedicated to building the capacity of individuals, organizations and alliances to achieve landscape scale conservation and biological integrity and diversity in Western North America. We focus our efforts on leaders and their development, inspiration and activation. We view leaders on staffs and boards as the key catalyst to motivate, direct and mobilize their staff, board members, donors and volunteers to attain habitat conservation and wilderness protection. Our approaches are tailored to working with individuals, organizations and alliances through coaching, consulting and training in planning, leadership, fundraising, fiscal, coalitions, personnel and governance. We contribute to "movement" level thinking by surveying the field on critical trends, such as executive director resiliency, fundraising trends and challenges, and salary and benefits trends. We work to leverage our impact by strategizing and coordinating with other key capacity builders and allies.
