Ivan grew up in a poor neighborhood in Mexico, right next to an AA association. His best friend at the time was an Atari, and the games he played on it helped him deal with the real world by letting him escape into a virtual one.
From this early fascination with electronic devices, Ivan soon learned how to work on them by watching his grandfather. It was he that introduced him to probably the most valuable instrument an electronics technician uses: the voltmeter. His grandfather taught him how to use this tool to measure the voltage on a bunch of old AAA batteries that he had in his shop. Also, Ivan watched his grandfather work on old TV’s, radios, and appliances using the other tool-of-the-trade, the oscilloscope. When he saw those lines of voltage going up and down on the scope, and when he smelled hot solder and old electronics, he knew he had it in his blood.
When Ivan was 13 years old, he decided to attend his first technical school at Intec of Mexico, an establishment usually frequented by adult contractors and specialists who wanted to learn how to install video and security interphone systems for hospitals, banks, and big condominiums. He graduated with a specialized certificate at only 14 years old. Despite this accomplishment, he knew even then that the knowledge he acquired was more important than a diploma printed on a piece of paper.
When he graduated High School, he went on to college to learn not only more about electronics, but to master computers as well. His PC knowledge was already extraordinary, but he soon excelled at programming as well. He learned not only how they work, react and interact, but also how they almost exemplify life on a basic level, where even the most simple of applications appear to feel and think – a skill set that not many techs of any sort can claim.
Although he was now learning the most advanced techniques available for software and hardware programming and implementation, he never forgot the most important lessons he learned from his grandfather all those years ago, and they actually had little to do with electronics. His grandfather used to fix appliances for friends and neighbors, and asked for little in return. It was this selfless attitude that was most important to him, and made him stand out the most in the hearts and minds of those whom he served. Ivan would always remember the gratitude and warm feelings of those his grandfather helped. Every time he would deliver a restored TV to someone who could not afford a new one, there was a profit in more than just dollars and cents. It was this sense of community and accomplishment and just plain kindness that Ivan strives to match to this day.
Ivan promised himself that he would always provide honest value and outstanding service regardless of how large his business would grow.
He thinks Grandpa would approve.
