Mother Hen Daycare might be a good choice for some, but it was not for us. Even though the daycare provider took good care of my child and obviously cared about him, there were some definite drawbacks which caused us to look elsewhere for care. These included: 1) A contract where we were obligated to pay no matter what, even for personal days the daycare provider took off. 2) Our child being sent home (and told to stay home for days at a time) for being sick, even when it was just for a runny nose or a common cold. If you or your spouse has a job where you can miss a week of work for a running nose, then this wouldn't be a problem for you but it was for us. 3) Although there were other activities happening simultaniously, the TV was on throughout most of the day, and I noticed my child began to expect and try to demand more TV at home as a result. On the plus side, it is a very safe environment and I didn't have a problem with how the daycare provider treated my son. She was very loving and affectionate with him. However, the reasons mentioned above were enough for us to make the decision to choose a better fit for us and our child.
