I have to admit I felt I was taking a chance placing a large order after reading some of the comments. I did and it was fine until the day of the delivery. I was to receive 52 pieces and received 46. The delivery man told me I was missing 6 pieces and was told the warehouse called him to come back to the warehouse and pick up the order and he told them he wasn't coming back!!!! I asked him if it was going to be delivered today? He said he didn't know, do I have to call the warehouse. He said no call customer service, asked you have a number he said no. That was at 2 p.m. I immediately called customer service was on the line for over a 1/2 an hour. In the mean time I called on my cell. Someone picked up and I explained what happened and she put me on hold for about 35 min. and never talked to her again, then Mia picked up and told her I was on hold and what the problem was and she said she couldn't help and she was going to hang up. I said please don't disconnect me and she said she wasn't but she did. I called back and I was fortunate to get Sharee. She's the best !!!! She was able to help me even though I had to pick up missing items in Schaumburg. I can't thank her enough I was so aggravated and she kept me calm. She made sure the items were ready for me at pick-up.It took a total of 1 hour and 48 minutes but at least Sharee did everything she could and truly cared about her job. She should receive the EMPLOYE OF THE MONTH!!! Thank you Sharee for doing your job well. Also when I picked up the boxes Jacob couldn't have been nicer. Thank you, Lyn

The worst customer service I have ever encountered anywhere from any store. Try to call them. You can't. The just want your money and could care less about you after the sale.

Same problem again. Horrible customer service. I cannot get a status of my order online, and there is no way to contact anyone by phone. Called 847-969-0210 and first got a human who transferred me after I asked her not to to the national line. After that my calls to 847-969-0210 were 'automatically' transferred to the national line. Still waiting - it's been 23 minutes so far.

Absolutely no way to get a person to help you by phone. I called 847 969 0210 and finally got a person that worked at the Schaumburg, IL was immediately transferred to the national ikea hotline before I was able to explain I had already spent an hour on the phone with them. I called back 3 times and instead of answering my call the representative continue to instantly transfer me to the National Ikea hotline. I make my purchase elsewhere.

Hi:

I have severe arthritis in my knees, I walk with a cane and am unable to stand for very long or walk long distances. I wanted to go to Ikea Schaumburg this weekend and sent an email asking if they had a motorized shopping cart available. I mean the store is huge. This was their reply:

Thank you for contacting us. We are happy to hear from you.

Regretfully, IKEA does not offer motorized scooters, however we do carry the manual wheel0chairs for customer use.

We are aware that some retailers currently offer motorized scooters and/or electric wheelchairs. Since the safety of all our customers is a priority, IKEA has chosen not to furnish these in our stores; however, customers are welcome to use their own at their discretion.

We hope this information has been helpful and we thank you for the opportunity to assist you. If you should have any additional questions, please let us know. We will be more than happy to assist you.

Best Regards,

Jessica

Really, really. How am I going to maneuver a wheelchair and a cart thru an Ikea store . And push wheelchair are impossible for a handicapped person to use if they are shopping alone. Try it sometime. Their stores are huge. I think it very disheartening the Ikea seems have no interest in serving their handicapped customers.

There has been concern over the carts leading to injuries when used by those who do not know how to control them well. The injuries can occur to the user if they crash into an object with the cart, or to a person the user crashes into. To reduce the risk of injury, most carts have a back-up warning system similar to those found on trucks. They also are programmed with a low maximum speed of up to two miles per hour. So this really has nothing to do with safety.

An international company like Ikea has no excuse not having this available to their disabled customers.

Shame on you, Ikea!

I called this number 847-969-0210 and actually got a human being. If was after hours, but she connected to the Schaumburg store's Customer Service, and I left the "detailed message" requested. Let's see if they follow up tomorrow.

I had a question about product availability in the Schaumburg store. First I called the 888-8884532 number and sat on hold for 20 minutes before i hung up!!!!! Then i found a direct number 847-969-9700 and tried that several times but I was disconnected before anyone even answered it. Nice way to treat a customer!! looks like I will buy almost the same product at Williams Sonoma. They want my business.

I went to Ikea to save money but ended up spending like crazy, it really adds up. I think overall it was a fun experience and I enjoyed everything I bought. Everything I bought was inexpensive and functional which I love about the store.

Prices have gone WAY up on everything

Ikea used to be the place you went to buy a cheap modern or standard piece of furniture. The prices have gone up significantly and this location has the highest sales tax anywhere in the U.S. (10.5%). You can still get a good deal on lighting, organizing shelves, and artwork, but the furniture is no longer a deal. A standard poor quality dining chair you have to put together yourself is $79 or more + tax. You can get a leather parsons dining chair for that price at several furniture stores & websites. Some of those locations have them already built for you. Ikea may have just what you're looking for, but I would definitely check their website before taking the trip. Keep in mind, they also close at 8pm on weekdays.

Poor, poor customer service!

We live 100 miles away from Ikea in Schaumburg and had long wanted to visit the store. We were impressed by the size and offerings of items at the store, as well as what seemed like decent prices at first, but unfortunately had several poor experiences there. We bought 2 dressers on our visit. The first had one little part missing that we were able to pick up at our local hardware store. The second piece, however, had nearly half the needed pieces missing (no, the boxes had not been opened), but had some extra un-needed pieces in there, I guess to make up for what probably was a Friday afternoon assembly line job. I called customer no-service and was on the phone for 32 minutes having to explain over and over what parts were missing. It apparently has escaped IKEA to put part numbers on their items, so it is very difficult to explain to someone on the phone what parts are needed. Because we needed so many parts, the customer service person told us that they would rather send out a whole new unit. Fine with me. 4 days later nothing, so I had to call again. Another 12 minutes on the phone and I was told someone would contact me within 14-48 hours. 5 days later still nothing. I called again. About 2 days after that someone called and asked if I could bring the parts in and they would exchange the unit. They would pay us .21 per mile, so I capitulated. I just wanted to get this done and over with. We got the new dresser and I insisted on opening the boxes to make sure that the parts were all there. This time they were. We made the mistake, however, to purchase a computer desk for our son while we were there. Since everything is self-serve we made sure to figure out that the top and legs are sold separately and we picked up the correct items. What we did not know, however, was that you need a frame to attach between the legs and the top. Sure, it makes sense now, but nowhere did it remind people that there are 4 parts for a desk (2 legs, top, frame). A sign in the desk department would have been most helpful. Or, wouldn’t you think that in the age of computers that at the cash register a note might come up telling the clerk that a desk is being sold without all the parts? So, not wanting to drive back 100 miles one way to buy the frame I want to buy it on their website. Unfortunately the part is not listed. I e-mailed customer no-service again and was given a phone number to call. I had to leave my number for a call back and a week has gone by again with still no call. I just want the frame and then I will never do business with IKEA again!
