Uchee Pines Institute was established in 1970 by Calvin Thrash and is a nonprofit health education and treatment facility. It treats people through the use of natural methods, exercises, vegetarian nutrition, hydrotherapy, massages, herbs and supplements. The institute operates a small health conditioning center that can accommodate up to 14 guests. It has an organic farm for students to get involved in several activities, such as soil preparation, seed plantation, plant cultivation, insect patrolling, produce harvesting and bread baking. The institute also operates a store that provides a selection of bulk foods, herbs and health-related items. It organizes a five-day simple remedies and preventive medicine seminar that includes hydrotherapy workshops, lectures, and information on massage, vegetarian cooking and other health topics.
