1100 Fairview Ave N, Seattle, WA 98109
The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center s founding members are credited with pioneering bone-marrow transplantation as a successful treatment for leukemia and other blood diseases. The Cancer Research Center provides research to understand, treat and prevent cancer and other life-threatening diseases. It treats 10,000 patients a year undergoing marrow transplants around the world. Patients who are enrolled in a center research study receive their care at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center was founded by Dr. William Hutchinson in 1975 in honor of his brother, Fred, a former major league baseball player and manager, who died of lung cancer at age 45. The Hutch Award is presented annually to a major league baseball player who exemplifies the fighting spirit and competitive desire of Fred Hutchinson.
