Since 1981, the West Seattle Food Bank has worked to eliminate hunger in our community - providing food and other basic supplies, plus education and referral services to neighbors in need. The West Seattle Food Bank has two full-time and three part-time staff who are assisted by more than 100 volunteers each month. Two hundred people donated more than 11, 200 hours of service in 2009. Executive Director, Frances Yeatts, was awarded the Mayors End Hunger Award in 2004 for extraordinary commitment to alleviating hunger in the community. On June 1st, 2007 the West Seattle Food Bank celebrated it's Grand Opening at our new facility, the West Seattle Comunity Resource Center and One Community Commons. This building is our new home, plus provides space for other social service agencies to offer services and outreach while clients receive food. Permanent office space for at least four other social service agencies and 34 units of affordable housing is included in the facility. Our vision for this Resource Center is that it will offer hope, along with resources to build self-esteem and personal security, while reconnecting families to support networks.
