Door Handle Saga -

I went to Jim's for a door handle repair. The door handle was replaced already but was not opening the door. They said they would look at it and after a few hours of me waiting there, they said they would need to order parts.

A few days later going without my vehicle - and almost $150 - I was told they had replaced the inside components of the door. However, it would stick and you had to push up against it to get it to actually open. The guy said it was stiff and would loosen up over the next few days - but It only became worse. I took the vehicle back in and they made further ":adjustments" stating it was the best they could do - but it was even harder to open then before! My husband called and the guy told him there was a few extra parts they had "left over" from the original "fix" and they could "try" replacing those... My husband wasn't having any of that and said you can either actually fix the door handle OR give us our money back (minus the price of parts USED of course).

The guy said no way and then defended himself by insisting that because you could technically open the door - even though you might have to try a few times and had to push against it with your hip while simultaneously pulling up on the handle to get it to release - that it WAS fixed because after all.. we could open it now. Yes, this conversation took place. Yes, this argument made sense as this man explained himself to my husband who is a engineer.

We explained when you take a car in for repairs after a wreck or even for a simple broken window - that just because the bumper is attached now and wasn't before OR just because you taped the window pieces together and put it in place - didn't make it "fixed". There was still a PROBLEM and that PROBLEM cost us $150 already and how is our kid expected to "open" the door with the force now required at her size?!?!?! (She isn't even tall enough to get her hip against the door handle!)

The guy said they did all they could do unless we wanted to pay for a locking mechanism and they could "try" replacing that to see if it helped. The door LOCKED fine. It was opening the damn handle that was the problem.

Now however there is MORE problems and damage from Jims work that wasn't there BEFORE they messed with it;

*the sensor telling you the headlights are on no longer works

*the unlock button from inside the vehicle does not work (Although passenger side door and the external key ring button does still work just fine!)

*the mirror adjustment buttons don't work and

*the window button is temperamental.

We just got our vehicle back and had it fixed with a $10 adjustment by another mechanic. The new mechanic said it was a matter of getting his "delicate" hand inside the door to make the adjustment..... but guess what - the stupid door handle WORKS NOW.

Thanks Jim's Express for the following:

Screwing us out of our vehicle for almost a week for a door handle

NOT fixing the actual problem with the door handle

Causing MORE issues that we have to pay to get fixed

Letting us know that shoddy work is acceptable for the customer

Providing this service before my appointment for my daughters vehicle servicing (I sincerely thank you for this one!!!!)

and lastly - Thank you for Billing us for this lesson.... Really! We appreciate life lessons! You rock!
