Dr is much more concerned with collecting rather than providing care. When asked about billing issues clear answers were not provided. Asked her who was being reimbursed when filing for insurance her exact words were, I don't know. If this type of information is not known it should be discussed with the customer before hand rather than filing for the patient without their knowledge. Gave the impression the doctor was attempting to collect my payment in addition to the insurance payment.

Thought maybe she wasn't good at billing but when sitting through sessions, 20 minutes would be spent on therapy and the remaining time would be spend talking about her personal life and dogs. Could not ask any questions about billing outside of therapy time, so while trying to sort out issue above, half of the $170 paid went to sorting out an issue that should of been addressed on her own time. Went through multiple sessions thinking therapy would improve but it did not. Dr would continue to talk about dogs and even solicit services for dogs.

Would recommend going with in network Dr. Will have less hassles and would have office staff to deal with payment issues.

I started seeing Dr. Allender after I began attending law school and experiencing increasing problems with anxiety. Dr. Allender taught me techniques to manage stress in a healthy way and gave me the confidence to believe that not only could I make it through law school, but I could do so successfully and with honors, which came to fruition. Dr. Allender genuinely cares about her patients and works hard with her patients to help them succeed and positively deal with whatever situations arise. I credit Dr. Allender with helping me achieve the goals for my career and life, and I would not be the person I am today without her guidance and help. Thank you, Dr. Allender!

After trying numerous mental health professionals - private practice and base service unit, my family member's depression only got worse and worse. Dr. Allender is a very non-traditional psychologist, but my family member has made more progress in 6 months with her than in six years of trying "traditional" mental health professionals who bullied him, blamed him, and attempted to utilize long standing methods and myths which clearly didn't work. We still have a way to go, but I believe my family member is alive because of her. Thank goodness she realizes that the true definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. If you want a change from the status quo members of the mental health community, give her a try.

I must disagree that Dr. Allender is as bad as the previous two reviews make her out to be. My daughter was fighting self-esteem, anger issues and depression and Dr. Allender helped her go through a staggering rebirth of self worth. We found that a good part of the issue was more family related and that my wife and I were part of the problem. We saw Dr. Allender, individually and as a family, for three years and what she taught us was nothing short of remarkable. She preaches the standard values that have been proven to help, but what she does is hold you accountable for your actions (sometimes in a harsh way to help enforce the issue). If you want someone to help fix your issues, she can help. If you want someone to coddle you and say what you want to hear then I would suggest you go elsewhere.

As far as a waste of money or "she has $$$ in her eyes, that is complete hogwash. You sign a contract with her at the beginning of your therapy that CLEARLY outlines what she charges for and what you will be accountable for if you cancel. In the end, she still has to run a business and survive. There are costs associated with doing that. Keep in mind that she is one of VERY FEW psycholgists that accept insurance of any kind. We all know how evil and unscrupulous insurance companies are these days and what she gets paid in the end is pathetic at best. She hasn't had a "raise" from the insurance companies in years. She is just trying to get by with her business and that is the main reason she doesnt have an Admin person. In addition, she fields hundreds of emails and many phone calls a day. Why SHOULDN'T you have to pay for them? A phone session is no different than regular session. You are forcing her to spend her OWN time on the phone (which she very little of to begin with). She charges for these things as a deterrent so that they are only used when absolutely necessary.

In the end, if you are a parent taking your child to see Dr. Allender, be prepared to be part of the solution and also be prepared to take a good part of the responsibility. I would recommend her therapy to anyone. Although she is a little eclectic and frustrating at times, her methods are tried and true even if you may believe they are "outdated".
