Emergency care

On May 2, 2008 about 10:45pm I took my husband to emergency room because he was having chest pains and numbness in his arms, a possible heart attack in action. He was given a wheel chair, and after waiting 15 or 20 minutes he asked the people at the desk when he would get help as he thought he was having a heart attack. They said there were a couple of nurses and both were busy. After waiting 20 or more minutes, he was then asked to sign six papers before even being seen and waited another 10 or so minutes. With chest pains he was not given priority over others and not given oxygen. Once he was seen, the care and treatment were fine, but with a couple of EKG's and a cat scan they said they didn't think he had a heart attack. So they were keeping him 24 hours for observation. Once the heart doctor read the cat scan, he said right away that my husband had suffered a heart attack and was duly admitted to hospital. I might add that just today, after being transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Hosp., Camden, NJ he under went a heart catherization and had a blocked artery (90%) and received a stent.

Once treated at J F Kennedy, he did receive good care, but I am really upset with the ER dept. with not responding better with a possible heart attack person. The outcome, because of it, could have been far worse than it turned out to be. I hope that in the future, any possible heart attack victims will receive prompt, immediate care.

Thank you.
