Provided by YP.comBuyer beware (i.e. shop elsewhere).
I purchased a used car for my teenager in early April 2015. Salesman convinced me it was a great deal, even knocked off $150 from the purchase price. Accepting his explanation that the traction control light that was on was a non-issue was a huge mistake on my part.
The salesman referred me to Hennen's Auto Service down the street with strong recommendation that they were a first-class shop. I'll review them separately, but basically Hennen's stated I needed new brake pads ($175) and tires ($575) immediately. Fortunately I went for a second opinion at Victory Auto in Chanhassen - brake pads were absolutely fine and tires from Costco were $100 cheaper.
Also, it turns out the ABS module was shot (thank you, Orr Autosport in Eden Prairie) and the power steering hose was brittle and causing problems. Cost estimates were 75% of the price I paid for the vehicle!
Since safety was my number #1 priority, I pleaded for help from Budget Autos. They agreed to have a look and explore cheaper fixes on the ABS module. After having possession of the car for 2 1/2 weeks in June/July (reminder that I bought in April), Budget Autos let me pick it up with no changes to the vehicle. They admitted the problem was more complex than their capability to address.
This led to a 3 month process of working towards a trade in solution since Budget Autos agreed with my safety concerns, especially with a teenage driver. The salesman led me to believe I could swap this out because of the safety concerns and have a car at equal or lesser value if I threw in $1k of cash. With dozens of fits and starts, they next wanted to check over the vehicle before they would swap it out. Apparently the car they sold me several months before with lots of miles on it now has other issues that they were not able to pin point (concerns with the computer and transmission). Clearly these were pre-existing conditions dating to before my purchase. Finally they rescinded the trade-in offer citing other concerns of other mechanical problems with the car they sold me!
So 6+ months later, I finally learned that I'm stuck with what I bought, at the price I paid, having absorbed a few hundred dollars of costs with auto service assessments, I'm picking the vehicle back up from Budget Autos. Non-monetized costs include six months of stress, gray hair, multiple trips to and from Budget Autos, dozens of phone calls, hundreds of texts.
I learn the hard way - very hard way in this case, so consider better options before stopping by to see Nate or Tom at Budget Autos.
Apologies for the long and thorough review. Good luck.
