All business is produced on a direct basis through internal staff. It also handles underwriting operations, claims services and administrative functions internally. Originally formed as a stock-owned company, Federated became a reciprocal exchange in October 1999. The organization s members have a voice in the company through a 20-member board. It has operated for nearly 50 years and is based in Shawnee Mission, Kan.
