In 1982 Corkys was changed over by new owner Peter Metsos to The Lamplighter Family Restaurant which became the second location of a chain of three Lamplighters in the San Fernando Valley.  Peter Metsos was and entrepreneur, but he knew better than to try and disturb the exterior of Armet and Davis’s design as he was a fan of them so he left it alone and just remodeled the interior. Mr Metsos had owned another one of Armet and Davis’s design previously in the 1970’s which was called Conrads and now known as Astros on Fletcher Drive. Mr Metsos and his son George Metsos owned and operated the Lamplighters for nearly 30 years in the Valley. In 2004 Peter Metsos passed away and it left his son to run the day to day operations. George Metsos who owns another famous location in Toluca Lake called PATYS came up with a plan to make a change. It was Christmas 2009 and George came up with the idea to remodel and re open Corkys once again. With the help of his wife Astrid, Mr and Mrs Metsos re opened Corkys in April 2010 capturing the The 1970’s architecture and feel along with re establishing Armet and Davis’s design. Mr  Metsos invited Mr Davis who at 94 years old came out to experience his creation and the re opening. Mr Eldon Davis passed away this year but he did get to see Corkys “ excavated from a tomb “ as stated by Chris Nichols associate editor for Los Angeles Magazine who is the expert in Googie Architecture in southern California. Corkys is family owned and operated by the Metsos Family. Decent food with a fun ambiance. The mid-century feel of the building is great, and service is generally quick. Meals are cheap and on par with most diners.

I like their breakfasts. They host a lot of film industry shoots. The vibe is Kind of like the booth scene in When Harry Met Sally

Love this place. Great for an early morning/late night stop over. Good service, and a beautiful bit of Valley history (and architecture). The bar lounge in back is a great dark place to hunker, as well. Ignore the listed hours. The diner opens at 7am. The bar closes down at 2am.
