These guys are the best so I go there for all my animal and farm needs. I have gotten one cat there and one little dog. Both animals were long time family favorites. They are helpful and warm and fuzzy and family owned. Very convenient to just pop in there and get what I need and support them too. Ann

Known Puppy Mill Seller! Shop elsewhere!

Store is dirty and crowded. Farmland has been known for years for it's poor store conditions and selling puppy-mill puppies. The puppies are kept in small wire bottomed cages or metal water troughs depending on their size. Farmland gets all of it's puppies from the same puppy mill in Kansas, BJ & Guys, who has had as many as 1,500 dogs at their facility at one time and has been cited by the USDA multiple times for violating the Animal Welfare Act. Dogs and puppies in rusty, dangerous cages, dogs & puppies in cages so small they hardly have room to stand up- that's where Farmland's puppies come from. For more information and to see the USDA reports for yourself visit the Facebook group Kitsap Against Puppy Mills http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kitsap-Against-Puppy-Mills/217900901606604I refuse to shop there for anything! If you want a pet, go to the Kitsap Humane Society or a quality breeder, if you want feed & supplies, look elsewhere!

Not bad, But not good either

Great selection of fish with clean tanks which is nice to see but the puppies come from puppy mills and its so sad to see them in such poor condition stuffed in cages with no bedding or toys and sometimes i see the small puppies feet go through the wire bottom and get stuck. the chicks are crammed and stacked on top of each other. Store is cramped but lots of product selection which is worth the cramped atmosphere. The workers here can either be extremely nice, helpful, and knowledgeable or not that nice and unhelpful. Puppies are WAY overpriced with the condition they're in. I like the store beside the fact that the puppies are in bad condition and come from puppy mills. If they stopped their puppy mill business and home bred a few breed i would like the store MUCH better. And if you think your helping the puppies by buying them from here you're just supporting the puppy mill and increasing demand and encouraging them to produce more puppies in those horrible conditions! If i ever work

Pet Hobbyist Niche

I read the blastings of this pet shop and had to say something. Keep in mind this place makes its money as a feedshop. Once you kick the dirt off your shoes and brush the straw from your jacket you will find that inside is a special treat that you rarely find anywhere these days. Inside, separated into different areas, like a collector's attic, are various birds for bird lovers, fish, and even reptiles that are unique and difficult to find. The fish are healthy, and if a bad shipment of Iguana's or other pets comes in starved, you will see an attempt to recover these poor animals health. Our family Doxie is from there, and although overpriced, she is precious to us. I don't know what to tell you if you didn't like the place, perhaps next time go to Walmart of Petsmart where they will scoop out the dead before you have to see it.

Complete agreement

I agree with the statement above. Everytime I go there I hope things have changed but they have not and it is horrible. The humane society does not do anything about it either. I recently went there with a friend and one of the hamster cages was low enough a little girl was staring into it, she was crying because the mommy hamster was hurting the babies. Looking in the mother had eaten parts of the entire litter. I mentioned it to the cashier and she said she would do something about it. Before I left she still had not gone in there to deal with it or even put a towel over the scene. The puppies are cramped and not played with, the reptiles are in sad conditions and not properly label or cared for. I wish that someone would do something about this place because those poor animals deserve better!

Horrible

I will usually support the local but this place is horrible and vile. I do not know why people want to support a business like this. Puppies come from the midwest (can you say - puppy mill). Store is dirty, cages/fish tanks are dirty, and animals are dirty. Any person with an ounce of compassion for animals will not shop here (ask your vet if they would buy an animal from this place). Go to Petsmart in Silverdale, Dels in Port Orchard or Cenex in Poulsbo for animal supplies. Get your puppy from a shelter, rescue or reputable breeder.
