I was looking for a DJ for my wedding coming up in March of next year. When we narrowed down our DJ's, I thought the respectful thing to do would be to email the other DJ's I had been in contact with and let them know we were no longer in need of their services. I actually just clicked on the generic Wedding Wire message that said out of budget and thanked him for his time. He was quoting me around $1000 for his services, he did offer a 10% discount for off season which I asked for, but we had 10 other DJ's who offered me awesome off season discounts much better than his. These other DJ's also had at least double the amount of reviews he had (none of them being less than 5 stars) AND included lights, had a much nicer display, had worked with my beautiful venue at Larkin's on the River multiple times, and had options for photo booths at a discounted rate as well. After my message was sent, I got an email back asking what I wanted to keep my budget between. I told him the number that the other 10 DJ's kept it between, which was indication that he was about $200-$300 higher. His response was arrogant, sarcastic, and completely unprofessional. He emailed me back saying "he is not interested in price matching other low quality DJ's and low quality entertainment (even though I didn't name any DJ's) because he is high quality and talented with SPECIAL SKILLS (eye roll)... and if you're price matching I'm sure you can find someone on Craigslist who will do a complete wedding for $250." As an excited bride planning my wedding, I thought his response was completely disrespectful.
