Located in the heart of downtown, the Sioux City Public Museum features large, colorful exhibits and interactive displays of Sioux City history. Permanent exhibits include a collection of artifacts from Native American tribes, including items from the Mill Creek culture dating to 1100 A.D., a lodge house and a tipi; a transportation display featuring a horseless buggy, a 1901 Oldsmobile and a 1918 Mack fire truck; and a section about the importance agriculture has played in the area's economy. Children can dig for replicas of terrestrial and marine fossils in the Big Dig exhibit.
