Anna Komorowski, MD, is a medical oncologist-hematologist and regional director of the Northwell Health Cancer Institute in Westchester County. She creates treatment plans using chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted drugs, and other medications to manage a wide array of cancers, including those of the bladder, kidney, ureter, gastrointestinal system, and the breast. “I feel strongly about using a comprehensive and compassionate approach to care and considering the needs of patients and their families during a challenging time,” she says. In her role as regional director, Dr. Komorowski is expanding cancer services at Northern Westchester Hospital and Phelps Hospital to better serve the needs of their local communities. Her family was central in her decision to pursue a career in medicine. “My grandmother and my parents were doctors, and I saw their passion for their work,” says Dr. Komorowski. Dr. Komorowski works with a team of doctors to create personalized treatment plans. Her colleagues include pathologists, radiologists, interventional radiologists, surgical oncologists, thoracic surgeons, colorectal surgeons, breast surgeons, gastroenterologists, and urologists, among others. She also collaborates with specialists throughout the Northwell Health system to ensure her patients receive the best possible outcomes. In addition, Dr. Komorowski provides cancer care at the Katz Institute for Women’s Health and is assistant professor at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and has been a Castle Connolly Top Doctor New York Metro Area (digital guide) for the last four years. She has also led the creation of a clinical trials program to evaluate treatments of colon, bladder, and breast cancers. She earned her medical degree from the Medical University of Warsaw. She then completed an internal medicine residency at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center, now known as Montefiore Medical Center–North Division. A hematology and medical oncology fellowship through New York Medical College followed. Combining innovations in science with patient care is the best part of Dr. Komorowski’s work. “Over the years, I’ve seen remission in patients that we didn’t dream about when I was starting out in my career. It’s wonderful to make a difference in people’s lives. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen with scientific advances in the next 5, 10, or 15 years.”
