Warning!

I went to Rich towards the end of last year to hire him to shoot our wedding. My fiance and I met with him and he seemed like a great choice. We wrote him a $500 check that day to hold the date of our wedding and set up an appointment for the following month to do our engagement photos. When we returned to his studio to do our engagement photos he was unprepared and said he didn't know that we were there to do photos that day, he thought we came to talk. His studio is an hour drive from where we were staying, I should have realized that day that we had made the wrong choice. Eventually we did get our photos done and the proofs online looked great. I ordered some to send in our wedding invitations and when they arrived in the mail I was very unhappy. There were red spots all over my and my fiance's face. At this point I think I need to explain that when I ordered the photos I did so via email and after two weeks never got a reply, so I emailed again. I had asked Rich to quote me a price for the photos before he had them printed. The next thing I know I've got an email from Rich and all it says is, "They're done. Call me." So not only had it taken him weeks to get back to me but he did not even give me the courtesy of letting me know what the cost was going to be. Needless to say when the photos arrived and they looked horrible we made the decision not to go with him after all. So once again we made the trip to the studio to let him know and to give the engagement photos back and we were informed that day that we would be receiving half of our deposit back. Fast forward 2 months. We still had not received our deposit back so my fiance gives him a call to see what is going on and he informs my fiance that we are not getting our deposit back because it was 2 months before our wedding date and he still had not booked another event. He said that it was stated right in our contract. The thing is, Rich never drew up a contract for us, we never signed anything, he just took our check and cashed it. After being reminded that we never signed a contract his only reply was that we should have. Yeah, you think? It would not have mattered anyway since we cancelled exactly 90 days before the event. So today, 3 months after cancelling his services we just got a check for ALMOST half of our deposit. I am greatly disappointed in Rich Miller. He has such a great reputation and I have seen him working and he seemed like a really great photographer. But the truth is, he is quite expensive and as far as I have seen his business ethics leave much to be desired. I would not recommend him to any one. So considered yourselves warned!
