I had been a patient of Dr. Gary L. Wright for perhaps 10 years. My daughters were his patients before that. When I became eligible for Medicare I applied for it through Dr. Wright’s office since he accepts it.

All my life I have been known by my middle name. Dr. Wright’s staff used that name rather than my first name in applying for Medicare reimbursement. Rather than referring to my original form that all doctors require their patients to fill out, or rather than ask me if I had a first name that was different from the name that I am known by, Dr. Wright not only informed me that he didn’t want me as a client, but he reported the $160 or $180 debt that I owed him to the three major credit agencies. This damaged my credit. This in turn caused the banks to charge a higher interest rate for a home loan. In the end, for me, this caused an approximate $5,000 loss.

Since I am eligible for Medicare, there is obviously no reason for him to suspect that his bill would not be paid.

I fault Dr. Wright for (A) being so cavalier that he made virtually no effort to see why there was trouble with the Medicare reimbursement, and (B) that his training of his staff was obviously inadequate, or they would have known to ask me (or check my entry form) to see if they were using my first name, or my middle name.
