About Dr. Wren When Dr. Ethan Wren is asked what exactly an orthopedic surgeon is, he explains that his work is focused on treating injuries, conditions, or diseases of the elbow, wrist, and hand. “The intricate anatomy, and my appreciation for the necessary attention to detail are what led me to this specialty,” he says. As someone who was always eager to be continually learning, Dr. Wren began his path of higher education at Wayne State University, and completed his BS, DO, and Orthopedic Surgery Residency from Michigan State University. Following his Orthopedic Residency Dr. Wren attended the Christine M. Kleinert Institute at the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Kentucky completing his Hand and Microsurgery Fellowship. “My treatment philosophy comes down to patient autonomy,” says Wren. “I try to educate my patients about their problem as best I can, with the greatest amount of evidence-based medicine, to allow them to make an informed decision about their care.” This partnership with his patients is born from his career path to date. Over time, he says, he’s learned that “If you listen to a patient long enough, they’ll lead you to exactly what the issue is.” For this reason, he strives to create an environment where patients feel comfortable being open and honest about their concerns. Dr. Wren chose to join the Beacon team in 2022, for its stability as a well-known and well-respected regional hospital system, and says he is excited to be part of its young and growing orthopedic department. In his own words… Who is or was the most influential person/role model in your life? There are two: my parents. Both are very hardworking and caring, and I like to think I have both of those same qualities. What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? Moving furniture with a friend of mine for a damage restoration service. I remember thinking, “This isn’t fun…I need to stay in school.” What is your favorite food? Movie? Favorite foods are BBQ ribs, and chicken wings. Favorite movies: the Daniel Craig Bond films. If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? Honestly, just my group of high school buddies. I’d like to enjoy reminiscing with them, about the time of our lives when we had no responsibility. In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? What are your hobbies, interests? Working out and playing golf.
