Hannah Yoder - Beacon Medical Group Midwifery Centered Care
621 Memorial Dr Ste 403, South Bend, IN 46601
About Hannah
As a Certified Nurse-Midwife, Hannah Yoder provides medical care related to women’s health and prenatal/postpartum care — and delivers babies. She was inspired to pursue a career in medicine during her high school anatomy class, where she became fascinated with the intricacies of the human body. After graduating, she spent a couple of months in Yemen shadowing a doctor at an NGO clinic. “I worked primarily with women and children,” she explains. ‘I was profoundly impacted by that experience. From that point, I started working towards a career that would allow me to focus on women’s healthcare.”
And that is where her philosophy of care was born. She prioritizes being present with her patients and strives to provide individualized, evidence-backed care. “Every person deserves to feel heard and cared for,” she says. “My patients have taught me that people discover amazing resources of strength and courage that often surprise them, and those around them, during the process of giving birth.”
Hannah chose to practice midwifery at Beacon because of their location in a large hospital with many resources for the people they care for. “I did my student rotations here and was attracted to the welcoming culture of the practice.”
In Her Own Words
Who is or was the most influential person/role model in your life? My mother. She can make every person around her feel welcome and special.
What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? My first job was reading the New York Times aloud to an elderly gentleman twice a week. It falls in the category of one of my favorite jobs ever — I learned a lot about current events and how to pronounce complex words.
What is your favorite food? Movie? My favorite food is my grandmother’s strawberry rhubarb pie. My favorite movie is anything from Pixar.
What were your best/worst subjects in school growing up? Literature, history and science were my best subjects. My worst was math.
If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? Elizabeth Blackwell, MD — the first female physician. I would love to listen to her tell the story of how she entered the medical field against all odds and ask her what motivated her to keep going.
In addition to medicine, what are you passionate about? I am passionate about good food and finding creative ways to eat healthy on a budget. I think healthy food options should be accessible to everyone, and healthy food should taste good!
What are your hobbies, interests? I enjoy hiking and being outdoors. I’m a self-admitted coffee snob and love to unwind by getting lost in a good book.
What is something most people don’t know about you? My family traveled overseas when I was younger, so I have lived in three different countries and visited an additional five countries.
