Invisible Fence

We recently purchased a house and we were thinking of getting an invisible fence. We called Wissco /Invisible Fence of South Bend to have someone out to give us an estimate.



We let them know that 2 owners prior to us had an invisible fence, but it was broken. The representative on the phone said that we would need to find out if the service box was in the garage because that would be more expensive to replace than just fixing the existing fence. We told her we didn't know and we just wanted to know how much it would cost if we decided to go with the electric fence.



An employee came to our house and told us he was ready to get the fence up and running. We let him know right away that we don't know if we want to have it fixed today, we are just interested in an estimate.



He found the box in the garage, showed us collars, and looked for damages to our existing fence. He said he couldn't tell us how much it would cost to repair the fence unless he checked this and there was a chance that if the fence line was too damaged, we would need to have a new wire rerun.



He also measured the total perimeter for the fence. We then got hit with a $154 bill for what we thought was just going to be a free estimate. We were charged for repairs (even though nothing was repaired) and for time (the employee was there for 45 mins and apparently only 30 minutes is covered?) We refused to pay and called the company to speak to the rep that we had spoken to on the phone to set up the appointment. We eventually had the "repair" charges dropped, but we still had to pay the $54 time fee.



We came into this thinking we wanted a free estimate to see if we wanted to spend the money to get an invisible fence. After seeing the bill for an estimate and the lack of communication in the organization, we have decided to go with a traditional fence. If you call them, make sure you know exactly what the employee is coming out for and what the charge will be.
