Lucia Ryan is a physical therapist at the University of Vermont Medical Center. She specializes in orthopedics, spine rehabilitation, post-op spine care and care of patients with bone density deficiency. She also treats patients with BPPV (vertigo). She has experience using the McKenzie Mechanical diagnosis which is an internationally acclaimed method of treatment for spinal pain. Lucia worked for over 15 years at The Spine Institute of New England, a clinic that specialized in the care of orthopedic spine patients. She has also been involved in a number of studies with the University of Vermont looking at the best therapy care for low back pain patients. Lucia has developed a special interest in working with patients who have been diagnosed with osteoporosis to help them develop a safe plan for activity and exercise that promotes improved bone density.   Lucia’s primary approach to treating patients is to educate them in the recovery and rehabilitation process including their role in the process. She spends time understanding how a patient’s injury or diagnosis is affecting their daily life and then develops a plan of care to help them through the recovery process.
