I went in to have my hair braided. My hair is short (about 1 inch all over) and blond. I wanted braids so I could let it grow until it was long enough to restart my dreadlocs.
In any case, I went to Locs of Excellence to have my hair braided by Chris. I had never had any contact with Chris and was totally unfamiliar with her work prior to my appointment. I wish I was still as unfamiliar.
I bought the hair I was asked to buy and went there on a Saturday. After 8 1/2 hours (during which time she stopped to work on other people's hair), she finished my hair. Now, before starting, she asked me how long I wanted my braids. I said I wanted them to be shoulder length, which thought she'd interpret to mean ALL braids reaching to my shoulders. The result was braids were of several different lengths, the ends were left unbraided, and in the top of my head, 4 partially French-braided braids. I guess Chris couldn't be bothered to separate the hair into the 8 braids that should have been made with that hair.
The minute I saw my hair in the mirror when she was finish, I was shocked and disappointed. I told Chris, "It's not long enough to put in a ponytail." Her response was, "No, it's not." Nothing more. When I got home, my cousin and sister were as outdone as I was since they'd given me the money to get my hair done as a late birthday present.
The day after my hair was done was spent finishing the braids on the ends with the hopes that that would make it look better. I also dyed the blonde black.
After a phone call during which Chris said she would redo my hair FOR FREE, I went back to the salon. But it was an entirely different story when I got there. The owner, Robin, claimed that since I had altered my hair from what Chris did, she couldn't redress my concerns. But the only reason I had to spend an entire day ALTERING my hair was because it was COMPLETELY UNPRESENTABLE when I left the salon.
And it's not like I was asking for a refund. All I wanted was for Chris (or someone) to redo my hair to the length I requested and to make it look like I think braids should look when you leave a salon.
I would advise anyone thinking of patronizing this salon to STAY AWAY. They will jack up your hair, take your money, and give you no recourse if you're dissatisfied. Before going to this salon, ask yourself if you want to look like Coolio.
This salon should not be called "Locs of Excellence." More like Locs of Inferiority.
