Initially earning a reputation for its design and style in athletic shoes and sportswear, Fila ran down its fashionable image in lieu of a hodgepodge of athletic endorsements. After selling off smaller parcels of its athletic division in 2003, Fila's owner, RCS Media Group, formerly Holding di Partecipazioni, threw in the towel on sporting goods and crossed the finish line on a sales deal with newly-created Sport Brands International. Sport Brands International was associated with private investment fund manager Cerberus. The resulting Fila has remained intact with goals to grow into its role in the sportswear arena. The company has opened about a more than 10 stores throughout the United States. Fila USA is headquartered in Sparks, Md., where it employs nearly 200 people.
