I had a mixed opinion of this church. First the good; The Priest was newly ordained a year ago but gave a strong and insightful sermon and spoke very well. I was impressed with how well he controlled the Mass but he seemed to be rushed a little. In fact, Mass was done in 45 minutes. The people were friendly & welcoming. Now the negative; There was a lot of chatter inside the Nave. It was hard to pray & have time with God before Mass. The Priest really needs to enforce the quiet of the Nave and have parishioners hold conversations outside. The organ! The organ was so loud in the little church that it drowned out the people who were desperately trying to lift their voices to the Lord. The minor key of the organ gave such a drone melody, it made EVERY song sound EXACTLY the same. I like to "celebrate" Mass but the organ gave a very somber and funeral like tone. Upon leaving, I thanked the Priest & told him he was great, at which he smiled. Then I said, but the Organ, not so much. The Priest had a strange look on his face but never said a word. Lastly, Mary & Joseph were on opposite sides than I am used to. Traditionally, Mary is on the left, which from Jesus' point of view, she is at his right hand. There also should only be one statue of Mary and they had two. It is not canon law but..... https://aleteia.org/2017/08/16/why-do-churches-have-mary-on-the-left-and-joseph-on-the-right/ . This is one of only two catholic churches in the Galax-Independance-Sparta area so we will attend Mass there again. We love going to church every Sunday to celebrate Mass, I just pray the Priest makes some changes with the music so I can leave feeling refreshed & happy.
