We offer you a remarkable combination of advanced surgical skill and state-of-the-art medical technology. Our elite team of eye physicians and staff are here to care for you in a very personalized manner. Empire Eye Physicians was the first practice in the Inland Northwest and is the first and only in the Spokane and Coeur dAlene region to offer patients the new standard in precision cataract surgery with laser-assisted cataract surgery. At our state-of-the-art surgery center, Dr. Kontos and Dr. Sturbaum can provide a comfortable, highly customized cataract procedure with precision not achievable with traditional manual techniques. Botox Cosmetic is a simple treatment performed by our physicians that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the brows for people aged 18 to 65 years old. iLASIK (Laser Assisted in-Situ Keratomileusis) is a surgical procedure of the front surface eye tissue (the cornea) developed to improve unaided vision. The procedure involves using eye drops to anesthetize the eye and placing a "blink holder" between the eyelids. The surgeon creates a "flap" of the cornea tissue with the IntraLase FS (femtosecond) Laser. The computer-guided, ultra-fast laser virtually eliminates almost all of the most severe, sight threatening LASIK complications related to microkeratomes*. The FS Laser also creates an optimal surface below the flap, allowing bettter visual outcomes. iLASIK eye surgery is performed at The Laser Institute as an outpatient surgery. It takes only seconds to treat a lifetime of nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. The entire surgical visit usually lasts less than a total of 2 hours. Preparing for surgery requires discontinued use of contact lenses and extensive eye evaluation before surgery. We routinely work with your family eye doctor to obtain information about your eyes. Following surgery, healing is evaluated with continued visits for several months. Although some activities may not be recommended for a week or so after iLASIK, most patients return to normal activities with functional vision within only a few days. Multifocal Lens Implants are designed for any person who is now experiencing Presbyopia (the inability to see things clearly up close) and is not satisfied with corrective lenses as a solution, or is in need of cataract surgery. The procedure is essentially similar to that for cataract surgery and is done on an outpatient basis at our facility. Corneal Transplants are designed for an individual whose vision cannot be corrected to a satisfactory level by glasses, contact lenses or other surgeries. Typically, poor vision caused by a cornea in this condition is a result of corneal failure after another eye surgery, Keratoconus, Fuchs' dystrophy or scarring following an injury to the eye.
