Summit School is a nontraditional educational institution that provides academic programs for more than 350 students in kindergarten through grade eight. The school has a staff of teachers that offers academic classes in music, art, mathematics, science, history, health study, reading, writing and social studies. Its staff also includes a guidance counselor, librarian, nurse, special education teacher and speech pathologist. Summit School operates Participation and Activities Crew, which is a volunteer organization that coordinates parental involvement in student education. It features a library and media center that maintains a collection of books, databases and reference materials. Located in Spokane Valley, Wash., Summit School is a part of the Central Valley School District, which governs over 22 schools. The Central Valley School District serves nearly 12,000 students in kindergarten through grade 12.
