WIC (Women, Infants and Children) is a nutrition program that improves health and nutrition status of pregnant and breastfeeding women and infants and children up to five years. It provides nutrition education and counseling services, as well as assistance with access to health care services. The program reaches over 163,000 women, infants and children in more than 210 clinics each month and provides services to approximately 273,000 individuals every year in Washington. WIC s services include checking blood iron levels and assessment of diet and eating patterns. Located in Spokane, Wash., the program is a part of the Washington State Department of Health, which offers breast and cervical health, diabetes control, heart health, and tobacco control and prevention programs.
