great food,great service,allways happy, clean store

Exposing this overt racism and IGNORANCE is good - now we can boycott this business and show that Standish and its surrounding communities are populated by respectful and decent people. We voted for Obama to regain a sense of national pride and to show the world we are indeed a progressive nation casting a vote for hope, not fear.



This place was always a bit creepy anyway - Always seemed like Human Chili might be on the menu.

There is a difference between freedom of expression, as protected by the 1st Amendment to the Constitution (that would be the Bill of Rights, dahawg), and expression of a threat on the life of another. Specifically, a threat on the President's life is a federal offense in violation of 18 U.S.C. 871, and is punishable by a fine and 5 years in the federal pen. Now, one could argue that no direct threats were made. True. At the same time one could argue that such a sign is fomenting (you'll have to go to the dictionary for this one, dahawg--I'm not going to tell you what it means) violence and that, according to established case law, is not protected by the First Amendment. That Amendment, I should add, protects stupid speech, as well. Thus, both of us can thank God we're Americans.

What is wrong with you people???? It's called freedom on speech!



I suppose you all would have a holier-than-thou fit if someone started The United Caucasian College Fund. Nobody says a word about The United Negro College Fund



It seems that the only people that cannot say anything that is race related are white people! I am not racist, but I for one am sick of being told to shut the hell up, just because I am a white, straight and single.

WMTW Channel 8, November 16, 2008 STANDISH, Maine — A sign at a Standish convenience store has attracted the attention of federal investigators. A reporter for the Associated Press said he saw a sign at the Oak Hill General Store for the Osama Obama Shotgun Pool, soliciting bets about when President-elect Barack Obama would be assassinated. The sign is no longer on display and the owner of the store denied any knowledge of it. However, Cumberland County Sheriff Mark Dion confirmed that he received a complaint about the sign and passed along the information to the Secret Service.

Unless you'd be okay with a "whites only" water fountain, avoid this little slice of backwater stupidity at all costs. As a white Christian woman, I am appalled that neanderthals like this are still mucking up our gene pool, and wish the owners of this establishment an express trip to bankruptcy.

The owners of this tore are the worst types of racists and should be thrown in jail. Avoid at all costs!!!

I for myself am a White 52 year old that grew up in the south. As sick as this makes me, it does not surprise me either. People want to think racism is dieing out but I believe it just changes its appearance. We as a nation have come a long way, but I am afraid it will be another 50 years before we can see true change in racism. I wont live to se it, but I hope and pray my daughter will and my grandchildren. What is just sickening is most of these people claim to be a so called Christian. I hope people in this area will NOT buy from this store!!

From the Huffington Post: 'At Standish, Maine, a sign inside the Oak Hill General Store read: "Osama Obama Shotgun Pool." Customers could sign up to bet $1 on a date when Obama would be killed. "Stabbing, shooting, roadside bombs, they all count," the sign said. At the bottom of the marker board was written "Let's hope someone wins".'
