Went for lunch. Dinner prices on lunch entreés was disappointing but would have been ok had the food been exceptional. Service was slow with a nearly empty place. Waitress focused more attention on patron at the bar. Jalapeño salsa served along with regular salsa and chips was a standout. By far the best part of the meal.
Husband had fajitas and enjoyed them. I had chicken flauta served over cilantro rice. It was way overstuffed with cheese and not much chicken. Had to scrape off excess cheese. I only had half of it yet a full 10 hours later it was still sitting like a lump in my stomach. Won't be going back anytime soon. We seriously need a good Mexican place in the Poconos, but this isn't it.

Provided by YP.comThough the waitress denied it. . . it would appear that this Mexican food eatery / bar has changed hands. The scruffy looking people behind the bar jabbering away in some sort of Eastern European tongue was evidence that perhaps some clueless miscreants had taken over the place.
Until sometime this past summer, the food at Marita's Cantina "WAS" very good to excellent. On my previous visit, after the dining room got some new chairs and tables, the food had transformed into crap. The chicken chimichanga order then was cold, heavily over spiced and totally greasy. Today, my wife decided that we should again try this place out for lunch. It was against my better judgement but . . .
Her order of just two TACOs turned out to be no good at all. The chicken in one tasted as if were scalded and not actually cooked. It was so poor that she only took a bite and then went to the other beef taco. That second taco was more like puss filled starch bag than a corn envelope containing a known meat substance. Both of those tacos were simply disgusting. My plate order of a chicken taco with beef enchilada was equally or perhaps worse. The Mexican rice was totally different from anything previously experienced. It appeared to be some form of store bought low grade overcooked Uncle Ben's rice glop with salsa sauce mixed in. That stuff was inedible. What was suppose to be re-fried beans was no doubt from a can. The food at the old Marita's Cantina was always known to be consistently very good being made on the premises with what appeared to be fresh ingredients. Their TACOS used to be something special. This alleged food material served today was an insult to human kind. Though we only consumed a small amount, both of us soon thereafter had upset stomachs. The substance served to us wasn't fit to be called garbage and actually made us both feel sick. Do yourself a favor and totally avoid Marita's Cantina in Stroudsburg, PA. Maybe the local board of health should take another look at this establishment.

Provided by YP.comI have been dining at Marita's since the early 90's. In all honesty, I can say that I have NEVER had a bad meal or experience there!
The food is always excellent, though not quite 100% authentic mexican, and the service is always above average. Prices to portions are excellent too. I highly recommend the chicken flauta (Spelling ???).
The wings, tacos, and empanadfas are some of the best around!!! Overall, you can't go wrong. Can be a lil' busy and loud Friday and Saturday Nights, but what place that is good isn't?
If you try it, you won't regret it!!!!
