My husband is a huge fan of BBQ and had been wanting to try Sooner BBQ for a good while. I surprised him with a trip there not long ago and we were both terribly disappointed. Since we had never been there before, we took a few minutes to study the menu and ask a few questions. The young man at the register was very impatient with us and acted like we were an inconvenience. I ordered the brown bag special, which came with a BBQ sandwich with slaw, a bag of chips, and a drink. My husband ordered the platter, which came with a BBQ sandwich with slaw, macaroni and cheese, and a drink. The bread, which I know is made locally in the Stuart's Draft area, was absolutely wonderful. The BBQ, however, was cold, fatty, and mushy. Also, the macaroni and cheese was bland and mushy. We don't mind paying a few dollars for good BBQ, but what we had was not even close to good, in our opinion. I do not give bad reviews regularly and I really don't like doing it now, but I feel like people deserve to have a head's up. Unless Sooner BBQ changes ownership again or we know for sure there has been in improvement in the quality and taste of the food there, we will not eat there again. The next time we are in the mood for BBQ, we will take a ride over to Peck's BBQ in Staunton. They have never let us down...
