The M. R. Wood Alternative Education Center helps to improve decision making and problem solving skills in students. Established in 1997, the center offers the Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Program, which improves the cognitive and personal development of students in grades 6 through 12. It operates the Structured Learning Center, which provides social skills training and counseling for students displaying long-term challenging behaviors. The M. R. Wood Alternative Education Center has a library that houses a variety of encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, newspapers, magazines, and fiction and nonfiction books. In addition, the center provides a technology integration program and ropes challenge courses. Located in Sugar Land, Texas, it is governed by the Fort Bend Independent School District.
