Having taken my dogs and cats to Live Oak Animal Clinic for 18 years, I recently placed my pets in the care of another clinic. As of 10/26/17, Dr. Shearer is no longer practicing at Live Oak Clinic, having sold his interest to 2 female vets. I always found Dr. Shearer to be exceptionally caring and very competent with my animals, placing a high priority on their welfare and keeping his fees reasonable so I could afford the best treatment for their needs. During recent months, since the new owners took over, things have changed drastically at the clinic. Having taken my dogs and cats to Live Oak Animal Clinic for 18 years, I recently placed my pets in the care of another clinic. As of 10/26/17, Dr. Shearer is no longer practicing at Live Oak Clinic, having sold his interest to 2 female vets. Although at times he could be somewhat "testy" with people, I always found Dr. Shearer to be exceptionally caring and very competent with my animals, placing a high priority on their welfare and keeping his fees reasonable so I could afford the best treatment for their needs. During recent months, since the new owners took over, things have changed drastically at the clinic. Not only are wait times ridiculously long for scheduled appts., but when the treating vet finally comes in to see your pet, you feel as though she's rushing to get done so she can move to the next exam room. Thorough and personal attention is sadly lacking, nor can you pin down the vet long enough to get answers to questions. If you do need to speak with her personally by phone, it's difficult to get past her technician, and you may not even receive a return phone call. The more recently hired front office staff are polite but not very helpful if you have a specific issue -- many of the original staff are gone so there's no continuity for longtime clients like myself. There's also been a sizeable increase in fees for office visits, tests and in-house meds since these vets took over. In my opinion, this Clinic has become a commercial operation where fees come first and the animals take second place and my pets deserve better than that! Sadly, I caution any who might be considering Live Oak Clinic to look elsewhere, unless you enjoy spending lots of money for mediocre service. You have been warned!
