I now live out of state...and I can say that BBQ is different all over the country...even different within the state of SC. That said, anybody who doesn't like Ward's food is not "from here." Ward's is a mainstay on the pulled pork BBQ and hash front; reminiscent of good ol' pig picking for family & friend gatherings of my childhood. There are others in town and in the region who are very good, some have more "strips" of pulled pork, where Ward's is more chopped or minced. Some are more ketchup based, some more mustard based. Ward's more vinegar and spices based is the "flavor" I love the most. I personally like the "strips/chunkier" BBQ, but Ward's flavor, and most especially, their hash is the best there is. It's a good home-town, nothing fancy eatery...a place I visit every time I come home!

I went here this evening on the recommendation of a local. I got the ribs. The BBC sauce was way to vinegary and fatty. I didn't care for the hash either. I would rather go to Chili's and have their's

The ribbs were cold and not tinder at all. The only thing that's was good was the hash and rice.

Wards Bar B Q is extremely good! My husband's family always keeps their barbecue and hash stashed away in their freezers to have ready access to enjoy at all times! In fact, we had their barbecue for Thanksgiving. The Bar B Q comes with a tasty red sauce to put over it. I recommend Wards in Sumter, SC, highly as a great Bar B Que place!
