Established in I890, YMCA of Sumter is engaged in voluntary childcare and wellness services catering to infants as well as seniors. Based in Sumter, S.C., it offers various programs, including aquatics, fitness and wellness, youth sports along with events such as birthday parties and seasonal events. YMCA of Sumter provides swimming lessons under its aquatics program and has two indoor swimming pools to cater to a variety of activities, such as swimming, water aerobics and family swim time. It also organizes various community welfare initiatives such as education support and donation campaigns.

Don't Waste Your Time and Money!

I recently moved to Sumter and decided to join the local YMCA for lack of another fitness facility. I arrived to tour the facility and was escorted by some type of manager who was very tall and very full of himself. Aside from his goofy demeanor, I found the place to be unkempt, outdated, and completely lacking in programming for my family. He did show me the "nursery" but I was so overwhelmed by the chlorine fumes from the pool that I could not imagine placing my son in there to breath such noxious air. For those of you considering the Sumter YMCA, don't waste your time and money. Instead, wait for the Gold's Gym that is supposed to be coming in the next 6 months. They probably won't offer stuff for your children to participate in but at least you'll get to exercise in a clean and well maintained atmosphere with patrons that will be youthful and dedicated to fitness.
