The YWCA of Syracuse & Onondaga County, also known as the Young Women's Christian Association of the United States of America, is one of the largest, nonprofit women's membership organizations in the world. Founded in 1858, it works toward the improvement of the quality of life for women and children and also promotes their economic empowerment. The organization offers child care and recreational programs and educational and vocational training services. The YWCA of Syracuse & Onondaga County also operates the YWCA Racial Justice Committee to educate local communities on various racial justice issues. The organization offers the YWCA Transitional Residence Program, which aims toward providing women with protection, support and security services. It operates early childhood education and child care centers. The YWCA of Syracuse & Onondaga County is a part of the YWCA USA.
