J.M Martinac Shipbuilding Corporation specializes in the design and construction of vessels up to 250 feet long. Its range of ships includes more than 70 tuna seiners, numerous harbor tugs, oceangoing tugs, factory trawlers, ferries, yachts, United States Coast Guard patrol boats, and a research sailing vessel. Collectively, Martinac has delivered more than 300 vessels since inception. Martinac employs all of the major crafts involved in ship construction, including welders, fitters, machinists, electricians, painters, riggers, pipe fitters and carpenters. The company also employs naval architects and marine engineers that design vessels from the keel up and assist in production development of existing designs. The J.M. Martinac Shipbuilding Corporation was founded in 1924 and still occupies its original site on the Thea Foss Waterway in Tacoma, Wash.
