We have one first grader graduate of OEW and another one at OEW. We are extremely grateful for the very loving and yet educational environment at OEW. They managed to give kids a lot of play time outdoors while managing to prepare them adequately for the world beyond. Its a very supportive community of parents contributing to collective growth of the kids.

I love OEW. My son has gone there since he was 2 years old and he will go until kindergarten. I love the place. It isn't anything fancy but there is quality in the education that is taught and my kid has a wonderful time playing in the dirt. I loved the directors philosophy of learning but having the kids play. I want my child to play, get dirty and have an imagination.

Full of love, learning, and play!

All three of my children have attended OEW (one is still there) and we love it. Yes, it looks a bit run down and it is not as polished as other places, but it has been a wonderful place for our kids. The teachers truly love our children and create a family-like environment. The kids get wonderfully dirty playing outside, they learn through fun, and have lots of time to play. They feed the kids a variety of snacks. Yes, that is sometimes processed foods and sweets, but it is balanced with fruit, vegetables, and more healthy choices as well. And I have seen the snacks improve in the years the my kids have been there. If you want a super organized, polished school it may not be the right place for you, but it is a place full of love and learning and we have been extremely happy to have our children there.

A sweet, traditional pre-school/daycare environment with a strong sense of community among the children and their parents. It's not fancy, but who needs fancy for 2 - 5 year olds?! My son was well-prepared for kindergarten at Takoma Park Elementary School. Very little staff turnover. Traditional activities and LOTS of time outside. The biggest "complaint" we had was that our son was always covered in mulch and dirt after a day there because they spend so much time outside! And that was exactly what we wanted. Regrettably, we paid a lot more for our older child's preschool experience, but were less satisfied. OEW is a diamond in the rough.

Great neighborhood school!

OEW provides a nuturing environment where kids can grow, learn, play and have fun. The school is accredited and follows learning themes each month yet there is a lot of room to play and explore. The outdoors space is ample and the kids spend a lot of time outside (weather permitting): they garden in the summer and also go on nature walks. My kids love it!

This center has a very uneducated staff that mistreats children (i.e. yelling and screaming at them) and a very rude director. They don't supervise children very well, especially outside. Remember you get what you pay for. Cheap center = cheap care. They feed highly processed and unhealthy snacks as well. If you care about your child's welfare find another center.
