Centinel Bank of Taos is the product of Eliu Romero. Growing up in a family of subsistence farmers, he put himself through college and law school. On his return to Taos, N.M., he applied at a local bank for a small loan to set up his law practice. He was denied the loan. He decided to start his own bank so that he could help others avoid the same rejection. The dream of a locally owned Hispanic bank was finally a reality when it opened its doors on March 1, 1969. Centinel is one of very few minority owned financial institutions in the United States. Personal banking services include checking accounts, savings accounts, certificates of deposit, individual retirement accounts, real estate loans and card services. Business banking services include checking accounts, savings accounts, certificates of deposit, loans, merchant services, eCBT cash management and card services. Centinel Bank of Taos has location in Taos.
