A monotype is a painting of oil etching inks on a a plexiglas plate transferred to one sheet of paper using a printing press. The result is an original piece of artwork labeled 1 of 1. The viscosity or peeling of the paper from the plexiglas plate after pressing removes all the oil from the plate and leaves it on the finished paper print.
