The Taylorville Police Department works to provide a safe and secure environment for the city residents and businesses. It operates an emergency response team that handles hostage and barricaded situations, serves high-risk warrants and search warrants. The department operates a communication and dispatch center that coordinates responses to calls for police, fire and medical emergency services. The Taylorville Police Department supports the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program, which helps children avoid involvement with drugs, gangs and violence. It has a protective association unit that sponsors various community-oriented activities and scholarships. The department is comprised of more than 20 sworn officers.
