Dear Jennifer L.
As owners of Almost Home Pet Resort and in response of your review of our facility, we are sorry for the loss of your pet over the summer. However in your review of our facility, we feel that it is necessary to go over certain facts that pertain to your situation.
Yes, you did book 2 suites for at our facility back on May 9th2014. After getting a copy of your pets shot records that we received from your vet; it stated that one of your pets was aggressive. According to our policy we require all pets that are aggressive to be brought in for evaluation. When we asked you why you needed 2 suites; you had stated that your pets can stay together but you wanted to book the extra room to keep your pets separated from the others. This sent us a red flag. We then asked for you to bring them in for their evaluations. After 4 MONTHS of requesting for you to bring in your pets to be evaluated numerous times, you told us that your male pet had passed away and for that we are truly sorry for your loss.
On Sept. 13th, 2014, you brought into us your female pet, who was extremely nervous, anxious and shy. It took over a half an hour to finally coax your pet to go outside to see our facility with one of our owners. After taking her outside and seeing how she was reacting we suggested bringing her in for doggy daycare FREQUENTLY so that she could get used to us and the other pets around here like we have done with other pets like her. You booked her to come in on Sept. 19th, but cancelled due to possible rain that day and rescheduled her to come in on Sept 26; where you let her stay with us for 3 HOURS which is not enough time for any evaluation, playtime or observation with your pet. We then asked AGAIN to bring her in for longer stays of daycare to see how she will do around the others. WE THEN HEARD NOTHING FROM YOU. There were NO weekly play dates or sleepovers as you stated or any weekly conversations ever until November 4th when you wanted to try doggy daycare again. Our kennel tech told you that her Bordatella shot was out of date and that it would need to be redone at least 1 week prior to her play date because that is our policy being that it is a live virus that they use in the serum. You said ok. When we got the copy of your new record you had it done THE DAY BEFORE. Again, you did not follow our policy as we had asked for and we rescheduled her play date for Nov. 14th. One of the owners then called you back on November 7th upon hearing that you wanted to do daycare during the Thanksgiving holiday. He stated that we do not do daycare during the holidays because we will be busy and suggested that for her stay in December that we keep her in one of our Indoor/Outdoor rooms because she has not been here as often as she should have and that she may do better there than in the suite; and that is where we were going to move her to since we still did not know how she would be around strangers. We need to know this in case we need to handle your pet in case of an emergency and for the safety of our staff. This was not satisfactory to you and you said this wasn’t fair. We NEVER cancelled your pets stay or say that she could not stay with us during your vacation. You decided that for yourself. We tried to work with you for 7 months and yet you never followed through with anything we asked; when we asked until the last minute when time was running out. As a business owner we do have the right to make suggestions or change things as we see fit to better your pets stay with us. We are sorry you did not feel this way.

Long story short ... Back in May 2014 we reserved/paid-deposit Christmas Holiday suites for both of our 8 year old brother & Sister Black Labs for 2 weeks (reason for boarding - Pre-paid once in a life-time Family Vacation) ... at the time we were impressed with the kindness and warm welcome we received from the staff at Almost Home pet Resort. First time ever boarding, knowing we would need to work them into the boarding routine. Not just for the fur babies but for us too ... this is a HUGE step for us. Over the summer we lost one fur baby due to an aggressive cancer and we all had to take some time to get through this time from mourning. Fall is here and now ready to start our play-dates/stay-overs getting into a routine of sorts. This morning I get a call from one of the owners telling me they don't have enough time to evaluate our fur baby's behavior/adaptability for our long reservation for the holiday (which we reserved back in May) ??? To date, we have complied with all of their boarding rules and regulations with initial meet & greet and a half day play day. Each week we WERE scheduling play-dates/sleep-overs getting us all ready for the big reservation for the Christmas holiday. The owner this morning was not professional, nor the same person we have been communicating with since May??? What happened??? Very disappointed with their now change of plans with for us ... The owner said "he doesn't have time to evaluate our fur baby now ... all booked up for the holiday"!! Really!! Wow, we were not expecting this from someone we have been involved with now for 6 months. Come to find out after looking into the social media to see and read over reviews if other boarders have had similar problems with this establishment ... found out they just blasted this ad on November 3rd .... "We are almost sold out for Thanksgiving, only 10 more rooms left. If you are going away call right away they will be gone by the end of the week. !!! ... Then we noticed this post shortly following "Got Bonnie's spot for Christmas this morning!" .... I thought they didn't have any slots available or are they regular boarders??? Maybe because we are new and only have a 6 month relationship with them so far??? Very disappointed is the only nice word I have to say right now. For those of you taking the time to read this post and care about your fur babies as much as we do ... do your research and keep our story close at hand ... it could also happen to you with Almost Home Pet Resort.

My husband deployed back in Se...

My husband deployed back in September, and when December rolled around I had to make the long trip back to Virginia for the holidays. It killed me that I could not bring my 2 labs, Molly & Tex with me but thankfully a friend recommended Almost Home! Jay and the team were amazing! Prior to dropping off my dogs, Jay gave me a tour of the beautiful facility and all of the animals looked happy, healthy and well taken care of! After dropping off my dogs, I didn't worry at all and was actually able to enjoy my vacation and the time with my family. It was heartbreaking to have to leave my fur-babies, but having them stay at Almost Home gave me an invaluable peace of mind. I will be sending Molly and Tex to "camp" again next month. Almost Home also offers a discount for active duty military members and families, so they automatically get cool points in my book for that!! Thanks so much for all you do! -Meg

found this kennel to be clean with very large indoor/outdoor runs as well as having air conditioned inside runs. People were very nice and friendly and took the time to know my dogs. My dogs were happy when I picked them up and I would recommend them to other people.
